When we tell folks we went to the Grand Canyon, we're often asked if we went on the Skywalk. I thought we might until I realized that the Skywalk is not part of the national park. It's actually at Grand Canyon West on the Hualapai Indian tribe's land. Because it's so far west of where we were, it was logistically out of our way. The more I read about it, though, the more I figured we were better off skipping that attraction anyway!
For one, the road leading to that area is 20 miles long and is unpaved. Once you get there, you must pay to enter the land. Then, you must pay to take the shuttle bus to the Skywalk area. If you want to actually walk across the Skywalk, guess what? Another fee! Because it's so dangerous to take your camera on the glass surface, no cameras or phones are allowed on the bridge, but the kind folks will gladly take your photo for you for the low, low price of $29.99. Get the picture? Well, actually, I'm not sure we could've afforded the picture!
Anyway, that's why the Grand Canyon Skywalk was not on our itinerary. However, I do hope we make it to Chicago someday because THIS is something I would like to do:
